Runcorn Vs The Bay

#0, by seagulls4ever, 24 July 2012 03:18 PM

If anyone doesn't know the M56 has been closed for a few hours now, overturned lorry and spillage of aluminium sulphate. Absolutely chaos at the moment, no word when the motorway will re-open but imagine it'll be bad for an hour or so until it clears.

Just a warning, so anyone going to tonight's game I'd probably leave now!

Just heard the M56 is unlikely to open until around 9.15pm so if you know anyone going to tonight's match you best tell them its not worth it sad

KO delayed until at least 7.45 due to only one linesman...but I see Rhyl's game has apparently been delayed until 8.30

Nightmare journey to get here. At the moment kick off looks like being 8pm.
Colwyn Bay have enough for a team, but at the moment they are still short of a goalkeeper.

Game has finally kicked off a 8.09pm.

With Sanna and Gaz Evans both stranded and Andy Metcalf away, Runcorn's reserve keeper is in goal for the Bay. They also include trialist Adam Mitter, formerly with Hibs.
Team: Brocklehurst, Denson, Lea, Mitter, Meadowcroft, McKenna, Ennis, Thomas, Hopley, Berkeley, Lloyd. Subs: Newby, Williams, Benson, Davey, Smyth, Barba (Spanish trialist).

Runcorn in front inside two minutes with a header from Paul Bowes.
 The keeper looks very shaky!

Denson shot saved and Berkeley puts a chance over the bar.
I am trying to preserve the  battery so I will update again later.

Half-time: Runcorn Linnets 1 Colwyn Bay 0

Colwyn Bay have had most of the play but have created very little in the way of chances. Runcorn keeper has had only two saves to make, from Denson and Hopley, while Hopley had a header deflected wide for a corner.
Lloyd and Ennis have threatened down the flanks occasionally and trialists Michael Thomas and Adam Mitter have shown up quite well.

Late arrival Allan Collins on for Hopley at half-time and after an hour Newby, Davey and Tom Smyth come on for Berkeley, Lloyd and Meadowcroft.
Same story,. however, and apart from a Luke Denson shot cleared off the line, the Bay have created nothing so far in the second half.

Runcorn's reserve keeper has not been tested in the Bay goal since that early goal.

Sean Williams on for Thomas.
But Lee Davey has been ordered off after a bad tackle so Thomas comes back on,.

It should be 2-0 to Runcorn after Liam Benson concedes an 86th minute penalty, but Runcorn's Neil Murphy fires the spot kick over the bar.

Final score: Runcorn 1 Colwyn Bay 0

Apart from helping fitness levels there was not much for Newbs to be too happy about.
Another defeat and a lack of quality in the final third meant the Bay rarely looked like saving the game.
